Wood Block Faux Christmas Presents {Rustic Christmas Blog Hop}
I have an easy tutorial for a wood block faux Christmas presents that is perfect for a display!
October was wet around these parts of the westcoast. Very, very wet.
Exactly double the normal amount of rainfall for the month.
And now November has arrived and the weather has changed to cold, crisp, and clear.
We have had frost the last few of mornings and my boys are convinced that it is snow.
I guess we are all ready for a little bit of “winter”… not to mention how excited we are for Christmas this year.
Are you getting ready for the holiday season? Or at least for a little bit of Christmas inspiration?
If so, you are in luck.
Today I have teamed up with a fabulous group of fellow Canadian bloggers to share some amazing rustic Christmas ideas….
I would say that raw leftover blocks of wood are pretty rustic.
So that is exactly what I started with….
Add some pretty wrapping paper and a little decoupage medium, and you have the makings of a simple little rustic Christmas craft project.
Quick and easy Wood Block Faux Christmas Presents.
To make these I used wood blocks in various sizes (leftover scrap pieces of 2×6)…
I also used wrapping paper, Mod Podge, craft paint and a brush, scissors, and twine and burlap ribbon to embellish them. May Arts generously provided the ribbon and twine for this project.
These are pretty simple; I didn’t take pictures along the way but I am pretty sure that you can make them without a picture tutorial.
1) Paint the edges of the wood blocks and let it dry (I painted the edges of two and left one set of edges the natural wood).
2) Cut the wrapping paper so that it fits just inside the edges of the wood block with a little bit showing all around each piece. I rounded the corners of the wrapping paper pieces, as you can see below.
3) Use Mod Podge to attach the wrapping paper to the wood blocks, and then add a layer of Mod Podge over top of the wrapping paper to give it a protective sealed finish.
4) Once dry, embellish them with ribbon or twine. I took a simple approach, making mine look more like pretty wrapped packages.
Done!
I think these little faux gifts add a pretty, rustic, and festive touch to any little corner of Christmas vignette. You could also add some lettering if you wanted to spell a Christmas-y related word like “JOY”, “PEACE”, or “HOPE”…
The beautiful little gold bunting is also from May Arts. I love the mix of the brown rustic cardstock with the pretty and sparkly gold polka dots. I think that a mix of rustic and gold will be the overall theme of our Christmas décor this year… I can’t wait to get started on the rest of my Christmas holiday decor!
Maybe you spotted these little Wood Block faux Christmas presents yesterday when I shared my Distressed White and Gold Mason Jar project?
Are you ready for some more beautiful rustic Christmas ideas?
I know that I am blown away by the ideas my fellow bloggers are sharing today and can’t wait to visit each and every one of them!
