Mothers Day Gift Ideas DIY

These super sweet DIY white painted beaded clay pots made with wood beads are a great Mothers Day Gift Idea DIY.

This little DIY planter was a super quick and fun project to make, and really thrifty, too! I used a clay pot and some wooden beads. You could definitely substitute other kinds of beads instead based on what is available to you. My clay pot is a dollar store find, and the wood beads were leftover from an Amazon order. I love coming up with simple gift idea DIYs from things that are easy to access or that I have on hand!

Today I’ve joined a few of my blogging friends who are also sharing their cute DIY ideas that would make good Mothers Day gift ideas DIY style. Be sure to visit their ideas by visiting their links at the bottom of today’s article.

Supplies and Materials:

Below are my materials and supplies to make this Mothers Day gift idea DIY beaded plant pot. I also used some preserved moss and two live plants, to fill the planter once it was finished…

How to make this Mothers Day Gift Idea DIY:

I simply hot glued the wooden beads to the rim of the flower pot, adding hot glue to the bottom (where they attach to the pot). I also added a dab of hot glue to the end of each bead where it attaches to the one already on the pot. It formed a very secure glue bond this way.

Once I had worked may way around the whole rim, I removed as many of the hot glue strands as I could. I also cleaned up the clay pot to make sure it and the beads were ready to receive their paint finish.

Using fusion paint to put the painted finish on the pot.

Next, I painted the whole thing with three full coats of white paint. Fusion Mineral paint in Casement was my choice again for this project. I’ve loved having this on hand, it’s helped me whip up so many cute little DIYs lately! I’ve got another fun project going on using black Fusion Mineral paint that I shared a sneak peak of here.

You can see there is a tiny opening between the beads and the pot rim. You could probably fill that in with some caulking if you want a really smooth attachment. I found it wasn’t noticeable from the front so I wasn’t worried about it. Also, if you want a more delicate look, you could use smaller beads, and even do two rows of them.

I just think that adding the beads added a sweet touch of interest and dimension to this simple clay pot and gave it a new look and feel. Potted plant are a classic Mothers Day gift idea so I thought it was special to make my own little pot as part of this DIY gift idea.

Adding the Plants

I added a little bit of plastic wrap to the bottom of my clay pot so that it wouldn’t be too leaky when it gets watered. Once I had the plants potted, I topped it up with preserved moss over top of the potting soil. I feel like adding the moss takes any kind of planted pot to the next level and like you bought it at a florist instead of made it yourself.

To make this look more like a Mothers Day gift idea DIY, I added a little label card to it!

Lastly, I printed off a cute little label on card stock, cut it out, and then hot glued it to a piece of driftwood that I had. You could also use a little BBQ skewer or a popsicle stick instead of the wood if that is what you have on hand.

Sweet, right?

I think this would make a great little teacher gift, coworker gift, neighbour gift, or even sweet pot to keep and use in your own spring and summer decor! I hope you enjoyed this idea. I’ve got more to share with you, since some of my friends are sharing their Mothers Day Gift Idea DIYs today as well!
