A First Glimpse of Our Christmas Home Tour

I am hoping to inspire you with a first glimpse of our Christmas home tour!

My Christmas totes are out. Are yours?

Our holiday decor items are currently littering the basement hallway outside the “Christmas closet” (aka the Harry-Potter-closet-under-the-stairs). Everywhere you look there are ornaments, baubles, wreaths, garlands, and tree toppers spread willy-nilly as I try to sort through the great piles of Christmas decor we have accumulated over the years. I think this year it is time for a bit of a purge.

I’m gradually decorating for the holidays throughout the house, though the process has been greatly slowed by the fact that we just finished painting the living room and are currently working on putting up board and batten in the dining room.

Oh yeah, and by the fact that the kitchen is still torn apart for renovation.

But Christmas is definitely on the way, and today I am sharing a first glimpse at our Christmas home tour.

A first glimpse of Christmas Home Tour poster.

With the painting of the living room some furniture has migrated around the house, and our entry hall now sports the bench (made from an old coffee table) that used to live under the window in the living room. What do you think of the change?

A small bench at the entrance of the house with faux white fur and a pillow on it.

A gold and white pillow on a bench with a basket filled with Christmas presents.

I also love to switch out the art on the gallery wall at Christmas time and make it look more festive…

A JOY sign and a star hanging on the wall.

The first thing you see when you walk through the front door is my rustic wooden star (made from paint sticks)…

A DIY Christmas star and a Christmas sign are on the wall at the entrance.

This year I have added quite a few shiny gold touches to our décor, such as these beautiful gold ornaments (found on clearance) stuffed inside these wood and glass square lanterns that I picked up at Target recently (they were also on clearance).

Glass wood squares filled with gold ornaments are on the side table beside a lamp.

And the main place that Christmas is in full effect is on our faux mantel. I decided to use it to display our traditional nativity scene this year… the chalkboard was made using an old oil painting as the base (much like this one that I shared), with a gold spray-painted frame.

A chalkboard is filled with Christmas words with a nativity scene in front of it.

A small nativity scene is in front of the chalkboard.

There is a small Christmas tree beside the nativity scene.

There are shepherds and lambs in the scene.

There is a large gold candle beside the nativity scene.

I think our Christmas mantel this year sets the tones perfectly for the Christmas décor I have planned for this season. As well I will be back soon to show you some more, including a full house tour on December 8th. Hopefully the construction will be finished around here by then:)  And perhaps we will even have our Christmas tree up and decorated!

So, I guess I better get moving now on finishing up our holiday décor so I can get all those totes put away…

Do you operate that way, with things our for a few days (or even weeks) while you decorate different areas of the house for the holidays. Or do you prefer a ‘binge decorating’ approach and get it all finished and put away in one fell swoop? {I usually prefer to do it that way, but it just didn’t quite work out like that this year}

Oh, and speaking of Christmas…with all that holiday shopping on the horizon, don’t forget to enter the great giveaway I have going on right now for some awesome Ultimate DIY-ers gear!!

  1. Love all of the gold touches! I’ve also purged this year and have sent three large boxes of Christmas decor to the thrift store already. I am simplifying and taking out a lot of the red. Can’t wait to see more as the season goes by!

  2. Very pretty, Krista! Love the golds you added this year! And totally loving your Christmasy gallery walls!

  3. The snowmen pictures are so cute and I love the nativity set and the way you have it displayed. I can’t wait to see the tree up and decorated.
