Yarn Wrapped Easter Eggs {& 14 Fab Spring Projects}
I am sharing an easy bright and colorful yarn wrapped Easter Egg tutorial with you!
Hello everyone! If you saw our Spring house tour yesterday you probably noticed that I went a little hog wild with the Easter décor. Well, what else is new?! I kinda get into holiday decorating. Maybe you noticed that? So anyhow… in honour of Easter crafting I whipped up a bunch of these adorable and colorful little yarn wrapped Easter eggs and I wanted to show you how quick and easy these are to make.
To make these I used:
Cotton Yarn (striped yarn that changes colors as well as solid) – I bought mine at Walmart
Styrofoam Eggs (from the dollar store)
Glue gun and glue
Scissors
The DIY process is pretty straight forward though the wrapping takes a little getting used to. Once you get the hang of it, it is pretty therapeutic really. I was thinking of opening a clinic where one of the relaxation technique involves egg wrapping. I think there is a market for it.
Start by adding some hot glue to the top and press the start of your yarn into it.
I did one little whirpool around and then let it set and dry for a few seconds before I kept wrapping and whirlpooling around…
Add more glue in three or four spots around the sides – only enough so that it doesn’t dry before you have time to wrap your yarn around.
Keep going until you get a little more then halfway down your egg. I then cut and glued my yarn to the egg and started again at the other end. I found it too tricky to wrap down the egg all the way as it narrowed out again at the bottom (I couldn’t get the hang of it that way- it was quite a mess when I tried)…
Keep going working your way back up until you meet the spot where you cut and glued the first part down. Do your best to blend it in and keep the yarn laying smoothly (but remember, they will likely only be seen from “one side” so don’t worry too much about perfection… I never do).
By some miracle of miracles most of them worked out so that the yarn colors even blended together where they met. I have no idea how. Providence, I suppose?
Done!
Now make about 75 more and you will have all the fun and pretty Easter décor you need. Your kid’s might not be impressed because they aren’t edible…but at least they last from year to year. And Easter is late this year so your glue gun burns should have healed in time for the holiday.
Want to try these?
Did you spot these on our mantel during our Spring house tour?
I love the vintage little toolbox I stuffed them in… that is another thrift store find.
I shoved a few in our little mini canoe as well- that is a Target Find.
Hey- guess what… at the end of the post there is a Giveaway going on for a Target Card! How fun!!
You can get your own mini-canoe to stuff Easter eggs in (and have lots of $$$ left over!).
And once you have the yarn wrapped Easter eggs down pat… I have some other amazing Spring projects that you are going to want to check out.
The talent of these ladies seriously astounds me!

So, do you decorate for holidays like Easter? Or just Christmas? What is your favourite thing to use to make Easter eggs? Do you like to dye real eggs? I haven’t tried that yet… maybe the boys and I will give ‘er a go this year. I bet they would love it. Especially if they get to dye their fingers multi-coloured at the same time.

Great idea for a warm Easter centerpiece. Love the round up of ideas also!
Love this! My Grandma use to make these, except used real eggs. This is so much more practical. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Love the seasonal section (and dollar spot).
I am seriously crafty-challenged but really loved the way these eggs looked and each year try to add a couple of items to my decor that can be RE-used so I tried them. I am so proud of how they turned out-not quite as perfect as yours look, but still pretty enough to display proudly!
I love all of the sections of Target! Especially the dollar section, the clearance section, and anything remotely to do with the home.
So pretty! Love them! I’ve pinned them to my yarn pinterest board.
I’m hosting a series right now all about yarn projects. I’d love to have you link anything you’ve made using yarn or twine or the like at the link party!

Nancy
Hi Nancy! I am such a sucker for pastels- our whole first house was pastel… so I think that might be why I have so much enthusiasm for Easter/Spring décor… plus it feels so fresh after a long wet winter!!
These are seriously so adorable! So hoping our dollar store has the styrofoam eggs 🙂
I hope so too Kendra, you never do know with those dollar stores! Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don’t. I think I overstocked but I guess I will have some for next year’s crafts too:) Thanks for coming by!!
I love the Home section at Target! And your Easter eggs are the cutest.
Thank you! I love the home section too- I was so thrilled when Target came to Canada last year and a store went in about an hour away from here. I love it!
Love your Spring ideas! Your blog is wonderful glad I found it!
Hi Sandra!! Thanks so much for your super kind comments- so glad you came by!
I am obsessed with Targets Home section. Especially home decor, throws, pillows, okay all of it really. Love!
I love their home section too Colleen! Good luck!!
Why yes I did notice these eggs in your Spring décor! How on earth did you mange to not get hot glue all over the outside? I must be Easter egg wrapping- challenged lol. Very pretty! 🙂
Hi Christy! I only dotted a thin line down the eggs and then wrapped… if it squeezed out a little I cut it off even with the yarn. They aren’t perfect but they are pretty cute overall, so I’m not too fussy about it!! lol:)
I LOVE the clothing section and the Home section!!
Loving the eggs Krista!!! Oh so pretty!
I LOVE that we have Target in Canada now – you too I bet!! Thanks Christine -they were a fun and quick Easter craft:)
P.S. The Yarn Wrapped Eggs are the Cutest! Trying out this with My 13 Year old Granddaughter Perfect for Her and I to do Together, Thanks a Million!
