Blog Tour & Exciting Projects Ahead

Happy Monday! I have a bit of a different post for you today. No DIY projects. No crafty crafts. No housie tour. And very few pictures. Today’s post is all about sharing a little bit more about myself with my beloved readers; something that I don’t do all that often. It seems so much easier to take pictures of my projects and our house and share all kinds of steps-tips-tricks then it is to actually share about me. So here goes. I can’t promise it will be pretty. If you are looking for more of a TOUR-tour then you can always hop over to our most recent house tour here.
Summer House Tour at The Happy Housie Front Porch
Basically, this tour is kind of like a game of tag-your-it taking place throughout the blogosphere. (Is that even a real word??)  I was nominated by one lovely blogger who shared her tour last Monday, and then I will in turn nominate THREE more bloggers who will share their “tours” next Monday. Kristi from Making it in the Mountains kindly asked me to participate….

Kristi is an absolute sweetheart and a fellow British Columbian gal  (not originally but she lives in beautiful BC now) and a fellow teacher as well. If you  haven’t had a chance to visit Kristi already , you must check her out. She is totally talented and has shared some truly awesome projects. One of my favourites is her DIY Pottery Barn Knock Off Table…

What am I working on?
My regular readers probably know that I have been working FOR-EV-ER and a day on finishing up our boys’ shared bedroom space…. We have finished almost everything but have a couple of finishing touches to get around to so that I can finally do the BIG REVEAL. Hopefully it happens before my oldest goes off to college (he is 6 so I have some time).
I also have a big new project that I’ve been working on for a while that I plan to reveal within the next couple of weeks:  a Command Central of sorts to help me attempt to stay more organized this coming school year. It is pretty embarrassing when you TEACH at the same school that your child attends but you still LOSE and forget to hand in key things like newsletters or to return report card envelopes. Yup. #truestory  We need a serious organizational plan of attack – and not just a “pretty” organizational plan (well, it has to be pretty too), but one that actually WORKS! More on our currently-under-construction-Command-Central-Station reaaaaalllly soon.
And finally…the big exciting one…. OUR KITCHEN!!  We have a contractor coming next week to get started on some structural stuff, my cabinets are currently being shipped to us, and I have put deposits down on our countertops and appliances. This is serious. IT. IS. ACTUALLY. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. I can’t wait to share the whole crazy story about living through a complete kitchen renovation with you all. Yay!!
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Um, so here is the part where I admit to y’all that sometimes, after reading many of the other wonderful blogs that I follow, I begin to wonder if, just perhaps, I am a little crazy for the amount of color and pattern I use. So I guess that is how I think my work is different sometimes… I can’t seem to go neutral if I try. But you know, it is what it is and I love being surrounded by color so that is what matters, right? I can’t imagine it any other way. {Except for in our soon-to-be white-on-white-on-white kitchen.}
Why do I write/create what I do?
Bwahahaha. If I knew the answer to this then maybe I could overcome my obsessive-compulsive need to redo-redecorate-remake-recreate etc. But seriously, I have always been a project person. I love thinking and planning and plotting and then I actually love getting down to business and getting projects completed just as much as I loved planning them. And usually, they don’t go exactly according to plan but that never bugs me. I love to just go with it and see how it all turns out. I love styling things and making them pretty. I love taking old junk and fixing it up. I love coming up with solutions to problems. I love creating a space for my family to enjoy that feels warm and welcoming and comfortable.
How does your writing/creating process work?
Hmm. Writing. Creative process. This is a tough one. I don’t usually slow down long enough to examine it from an objective stand point like that. I think I have a really strong desire for change in my life and because I am a pretty traditional person in many other ways I express this change through being creative in my DIY projects, decorating, and crafts. I have always loved decorating and styling and, as I said, love projects….so I guess that basically this blog grew out of that crazy-creative-love-of decorating/DIY/crafts and it just continues to grow. It doesn’t mean I don’t like to take breaks from projects…but I know I will always have projects brewing and can’t actually imagine living any other way. So be it.

I have asked the following fabulous bloggers to share their own Tours Through Blogland with you next Monday, August 18th:

This gal is ridiculously funny and super talented. She was my travel buddy and roommate at Haven and I enjoyed every minute of getting to know her better. She kept me sane and calm when I “lost” my passport and even let me hold her arm as I squealed during our flight (ya, so I might have a little fear of flying…). Anyhow, I know you will love her witty writing, adorable projects, and fabulous recipes just as much as I do.

Sarah oozes talent, charm, and sweetness. I have loved her style and blog for months and months and after getting to spend time with her in real life at Haven I can promise you that she is an absolute doll and is truly the complete package: she is smart, funny, sweet, friendly, beautiful, and amazingly talented.

Kendra is a lovely newer blogger that also hails from the great frozen north of Canada, as I do. She is super friendly, kind, and shares great projects all the time at my Work it Wednesday party which is where, I believe, that I first “found” her. I was super impressed with her charming master bedroom makeover and want to share her talents with y’all – she shares all kinds of great little projects and fabulous recipes to boot.
Thanks for reading. And remember my housie friends, HOME isn’t built in a day. Enjoy the journey.
