Our Christmas-ified Living and Dining Room {Christmas Party Tour of Homes!!}

I am so excited today to be participating in the Christmas Party Tour of Homes – and sharing our Christmas-ified Living and Dining Room with you!!

Christmas Party Tour of Homes Living and Dining Room

We haven’t got our tree up yet because we plan to take our boys to cut one down at a local Christmas Tree Farm this weekend, but the rest of our living area has already been transformed in honour of this most special of holidays…

We changed up the gallery wall a little to reflect the season… you can see my Yarn Snowball Wreath and my Polka Dot Chalkboard Christmas countdown sign…

I made the red and white envelope pillows (in Premier Prints fabrics- lipstick and white color tone) last Christmas (using my two-piece envelope method) but added the blue plaid and white furry pillows this season (using my fastest ever one piece envelope method).

The buntings were made two seasons ago just by cutting some fabric triangles and whipping them through my sewing machine to attach them using a white ribbon at the top. I love the festive touch they add.

When we get our tree next week it will go between the white chairs centered on the window.

If you are a regular reader you may have noticed the new rug – we picked it up at IKEA last weekend because (unfortunately) our sweet, loving, black lab was starting to completely destroy our green and white chevron rug- it has found a new home in our Master Bedroom instead.

For the coffee table I created a mini Christmas tree out of felt flowers- I will be back soon with a tutorial on how I did it. I love the texture it adds and how nicely it mixes with the natural pinecones and faux birch candles (also from Ikea).

I love to add natural elements and greenery as much as possible at Christmas time…

Regular readers may also notice that I changed up the color of our TV Media Console as well- the yellow really didn’t work with the tones of the new rug and I hadn’t been liking it against our wall color either. So giving it a quick coat of DIY Chalk paint in cloud white (Benjamin Moore) took care of that issue…

To dress it for the holidays I used some vintage finds (like the paddle that I shared about here) as well as some new little lanterns that I picked up at Ikea (I don’t get there often – so it is pretty exciting when I do:). When I saw these lanterns I felt like they had made them specifically for our house. Really. I think they did.

Heading into the dining room….

You see our faux mantel decorated for the holidays with one of my favourite Christmas decorations- these giant village houses that I picked up at a little shop several seasons ago. I always look forward to getting them out again each year…

We changed up the gallery wall in the dining room a little as well- I wrapped some of our frames in pretty wrapping paper and added ric rac and felt flowers to embellish them. I am sharing how I did it over at Twelve O Eight tomorrow.

I also created some art work using pretty scrapbook paper and gift tags.

The ribbon Christmas tree was another fun project – I will share my how-to for that soon as well.

Our centerpiece for the season are my super thrifty DIY yarn and feather mini Christmas trees….

And the final corner of the dining room has been warmed up with my Pottery Barn Knockoff PEACE sign… I shared my tutorial over at Uncommon Designs last week…

I love the cozy feel of our main living area done up for Christmas… though the most important part of our holiday décor lives in our entry hall- it is the first thing you see as you walk in.

I will share more of our entry hall another day…

  1. I am in love with your colours, I would have never put turquoise & red together……love, love, love it! And all your creative ideas! What colour (name/brand) of turquoise paint do you use? Happy Holidays!

    1. Hi Tami! I have done turquoise and red for a few years now… I love the contrast. Our hallway is painted a blue/grey/teal color called Colorado Gray and our bathroom is more of a strong turquoise called Ash Blue (both Benjamin Moore colors). Are those the colours you mean?? Thank you so much for your visit! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!!

  2. Wow, I am in love with all your winter decor. Hard to say which is my favorite;the pallet wall sign, the felt tree, the banner hanging over the window-I adore it all! I also really like the rug you have in your living room. Where did you find it and is it comfortable on feet?

    1. Hi Jennifer! The rug is pretty new- our old chevron rug was slowly being completely destroyed by our big black lab (without her meaning to of course). This one is the Tarby rug from Ikea – it is quite hard and bumpy on the feet but not uncomfortable- kind of like a little massage:) Lots of the natural rugs that I looked at were super scratchy feeling and I like that this isn’t scratchy at all – no little bits of grass sticking up trying to cut you. But it is bumpy for sure, so it depends on whether you mind that feeling or not! Thanks so much fro your visit and sweet comments!!

  3. I absolutely LOVE your Christmas house! Everything is so festive and fun, and I think I NEED one of those “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” wood signs. Did you make that or buy it? I’m following now!

      1. Hi Jenny!! So glad to have you come by- I have already started my ‘list’ for next year too- good thing for pinterest or I would never remember it all!!

  4. Enjoyed touring your home. It has a happy and warm feel about it. Loved your felt tree. Will start following your blog now and watching for the tutorial! Thank you.

  5. I love, love, love your home Krista!!! Your and my style is very similar! 🙂 Colorful and whimsical. I just posted Part 1 of my tour today! Much like yours in a lot of ways! 😉

  6. Hey Krista!
What’s the name of the new ikea rug you have for the living room? I love it! We have a beautiful trellis rug that is being destroyed by our boxer and lab as well!

    1. I Jacquie – it is called the Tarnby rug and it comes in two sizes and we bought the largest one they have which is basically 7×10 (200×300 cm). We bought ours in the store but the online pictures look much lighter then it is in real life- but I suppose that because it is natural materials the color varies in each rug. I think it will hold up really well and not show dirt the way the old rug did- Isn’t it heartbreaking to see your beloved rug destroyed? Ah well, I should have known better – with a black lab and two little kids….and mostly with the lab:)

  7. can’t believe I missed this post in my e-mails Krista but so glad I just read it WOW! your house is gorgeous, I really love it, all the little details you add to your house ah! I love everything you do and how you style everything! your dining room is gorgeous too; so welcoming 🙂

  8. OMG!! Can I come over for Christmas?? I mean holy happiness!!! Ok, so how in the world do you switch out holiday wall décor without having hole all over the place… or do you???
Thanks so much for a beautiful tour!!!

  9. Krista, I love your festive house! However I have been unable to open any of the Wednesday Christmas Party tours. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Sue! I figured it out- you were trying the links at 3:30 PST or 6:30 PST and this is an evening tour- everyone is posting this week at 7pm in the evening… so they should all work now:)

  10. Oh Krista… who need a tree when you are a decorating diva?!? I just love the colors you have used! So merry and bright!!! My favorite part are the giant village houses!! Those are just too dang fun!! And I love your tribute to the real meaning by the door! I have the same!! After all, it’s the reason for the season! Thank you for inviting us into your home!! It is beautiful! Pinning and Sharing on FB!!!

  11. Gorgeous Krista! Can’t believe you also painted your media console during the Christmas season too. It turned out perfect! Sharing on my FB page today 😉

  13. Wow Krista! Your home just screams Christmas joy! I seriously love every single detail. The first thing I noticed was the newly white media console and it looks so great! That snowball wreath and pallet sign also caught my eye. A lovely home tour, I agree with Laura – I want to move in 😉

  14. Krista! GAH!! I just love it to pieces. Every time I see your home, I have this urge to pack my bags and come live with you. I know that sounds creepy, but it’s true. 🙂 I mean, all the details are perfect. Do you spend all day crafting? Because it took my FOREVER to wrap 5 presents to put under my tree for my home tour. Ha! It’s beautiful!!

  15. Love it all, Krista! It feels totally festive even without the tree. I love the village houses and of course, I’m always a fan of your wall displays. Beautiful! XO
